Our Sustainable Choices

Sustainability versus Practicality

At Aermeda, introducing a new product line is not a common occurrence and it is a slow, considered process. Firstly, we must be convinced that we can offer the best product possible and that it will align with our values and purpose.

Formulation of our recipe was only one part of our journey to produce our amazing Beard and Facial oils. After 8 months R&D we were happy.

Sourcing a ‘Forever Vessel’

As part of our research, we were investigating vessels.

The beauty business is renowned for its packaging waste and significant contribution to the environmental crisis –estimates are that 120 BILLION cosmetic packages are produced annually, mainly from virgin plastic, and the vast majority is unlikely to be recycled! We did not want to add to the problem so, Aermeda made the decision to find a ‘forever’ vessel and adopt a method of ‘closed loop’ packaging.

Our list was not overly long.

-       We wanted something functional and durable to carry our product, that could be ideally reused indefinitely making refills a real option or, could be recycled or upcycled to minimize waste and promote sustainable production.

-       Aesthetics was important. It needed to be attractive and appeal to everyone.

-       Would feel good to hold in the hand and, be leak free.

To an extent, being constrained by Aermeda’s philosophy made it easier, by narrowing our choices.

Plastic was not even an option; aluminum was dismissed because of the potential to easily dent; glass was a possibility. However, Stainless steel, once considered was the obvious choice.

Why Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel can be a luxurious packaging material which is one of the most environmentally friendly, safe and reusable materials used in our everyday life.

The ‘flasks’ sourced by Aermeda are constructed with food grade stainless steel and offer us a truly sustainable solution to realise our goal for closing the loop on waste.

Closing the loop – how will it work?

Details are still being finalised but something like this will be introduced in June 2023.

1.     You buy your oil in a stainless steel forever vessel. When ready just order a refill online. You will be sent a refill in an aluminum bottle with a funnel.

2.     When you have 3 refills bottles, email us and we will send you a free postage label and, when we receive your bottles, we will email you 15% your next refill.

3.     We will sterilize and repurpose your aluminum bottles or, if damaged, recycle them.

We thank you in advance for being supportive of our initiative to minimise our waste packaging.
