  • Yes!

In each bar – be it Goat milk, Almond milk or Coconut & Rice milk soap, all Aermeda soap is created with 100% milk to replace all water.

It is common to use less than full water replacement for the liquid in milk soaps. Or milk powder is used as an alternative to fresh milk. This is easier to make and can still be claimed as a “goats milk” soap.

Aermeda use 100% goats milk (contributed by our own herd) in our soaps and this is what gives you such a soft, creamy and gentle soap, providing you with such good results.

  • No! We do not test any of our products on animals. All testing is done on eager humans volunteers.

  • Our range is a mixture of scented and unscented bars.

Where our products are scented the subtle aroma is achieved through our own unique blend of therapeutic grade botanical oils.

This does not achieve the strong level of scents found in other cosmetics using fragrance and enhancers.

  • Aermeda soaps only contain therapeutic grade essential oils. We do not use fragrance oils.

Essential oils are 100% pure botanical extracts that provide aromatherapeutic benefits as well as beautiful aromas. They are considered “all-natural.”

Fragrance oils are NOT “all-natural”, they are man-made, synthetic scents. Some are made to mimic the scent of an essential oil, while others are a more traditional perfume or fruity concoction.

  • Clays offer many benefits in skincare products. Aermeda uses a variety of natural clays in our soaps for the following reasons;

    – exfoliates and smooths

    – removes toxins and pollutants

    – stimulates and brightens

    – adds slip (for shaving)

    – contains valuable minerals

    – natural colourant

  • This will vary based on usage and how it is cared for.

By creating an ideal environment, your soaps will last far longer. If properly stored and drained between uses, you can typically expect a soap on the rope/soap bar to last at least 3-4 weeks.

To care for your soap and make it last longer:

    • Prior to first use, keep in box or somewhere out of the sunlight.

    • If not hanging from its rope, place your soap bar on a soap dish that keeps it from standing in water. The key factor to maintaining your soap is air ventilation.

    • Ideally, allow your soap to dry completely between use.

    • if hanging your soap on the rope in the shower, avoid hanging it in a direct spray of water as this will dissolve it much faster.

Our soaps cure for a minimum of 8 weeks in order to bring you a nice, hard bar of soap.

  • If you need to store the soap, store it in a non-humid location out of direct heat or sunlight.

  • Our regular soap bars are a generous size – weighing a minimum of 155g hand cut.

Our Duo soap on the rope are 90g each and come in packs two, so a total of 180g.

  • No! We do not use any synthetic detergents in any of our soaps. There are no preservatives in our soaps.

    Aermeda Soaps are 100% natural.

  • Our range of soap boxes are made from FSC certified paper conforming to exacting social and environmental guidelines and are home compostable.

Our packaging is made using recycled materials wherever possible. All of our packaging, however, is recycleable, compostable or can be repurposed for another use. We do not use plastic in our packaging or products.

  • We recognise that there really aren’t any ‘natural’ skincare products since these simply don’t exist in nature!

When we say our soaps are natural, we mean we take natural ingredients and blend them together to create nature derived products.

Read about our individual ingredients here.

Our products contain no unnecessary or harmful ingredients.

  • Yes. Glycerin naturally occurs when our soap ingredients (plant oils) mix with lye - glycerin is produced and settles between the soap molecules. It is all left in the soap.

A highly prized result of cold processed soap making, Glycerin is an ultra skin nourishing emollient that has wonderful benefits in soap. It is a humectant, which means it draws water from the air into the skin. It is very gentle on your skin due to its low Ph level.

  • There’s also a huge difference between ‘made with lye’ and ‘containing lye’.

Soap is the result of a chemical reaction called saponification that occurs between lye and a type of molecule called a triglyceride (in our plant oil ingredients), where both substances are chemically transformed, creating soap and natural glycerin. Neither of the original ingredients exists anymore. All the lye –sodium hydroxide – is consumed in the reaction.

So, while soap is made with lye, it doesn’t contain lye.

Modern methods and measuring scales ensure soap-makers to use the proper volume of oils and lye, ensuring that all lye is consumed. In addition, many, including Aermeda, formulate to use more oil than is required for the chemical reaction, further ensuring the neutralization of lye and adding to the soap’s moisturizing qualities. This is known as superfatting.

Chemistry is where the truth lies. You’re not using lye on your skin. You’re using soap.
