Changing the shaving narrative

Aermeda is known for reintroducing traditional ideas accompanied by thoughtfully conceived innovations, refining old classics into adventurous artisan offerings. Wet shaving is no different - we seek to move shaving forward while pulling/learning from traditions of the past.

The art of wet shaving is immediately nostalgic and traditionally directed at men and facial hair, the notion that a safety razor is exclusive to men is gradually becoming a thing of the past. Women are beginning to get to know the benefits of wet shaving!

Our shaving soap is not aimed towards any gender and our unique subtle aromas will be enjoyed by everyone, our product emphasises the pampering experience that lathering and prepping can bring to a ‘means to an end’ chore – encouraging ‘me time’.

Our bar possesses a dense, stable lather with luxurious moisturising qualities to enrich your skin whilst at the same time not compromise the environment. Formulated specifically for use with a brush, our shaving soap forms a protective barrier between the skin and razor blade – essential for anyone who practices wet shaving.

Standard cleansing soaps are unable to provide the same protection as a specialised shaving soap.

Why do we include goat milk in our shaving soap?

Bear in mind that the shaving lather is in contact with the skin for a good length of time and that the majority of shavers employ a multiple pass technique and reapply the lather more than once. This shaving method means the soap properties are more available to the skin. Therefore natural skin loving ingredients with beneficial properties are essential.

Goats milk is prized in quality shaving soap for its ability to help soothe, reduce irritation and moisturise the skin post shave. Its unique nourishing properties make it perfect for those with dry and/or sensitive skin.

Goats milk is full of natural fatty acids and triglycerides, which are crucial when rehydrating dry skin and strengthening your skin barrier. So as an ingredient, it is moisturising and prevents your skin feeling dry and tight post shave.

Unusual in the creation of shaving soap, Aermeda uses the traditional cold process method. A slower technique but, one that ensures the integrity of our ingredients are preserved.

What is wet shaving?

Wet shaving is basically the removal of body hair with a blade. The phrase was coined to differentiate between dry shaving with an electric razor.

Without doubt, shaving with a safety razor takes some effort - a bit like making a real coffee v instant coffee! The lathering and prepping requires you to slow down, to focus, and to be in the moment – encouraging ‘me time’ and a short period of relaxation free from the rush and chaos of life.

From the purchasing of equipment (what and where from) to the act of shaving, wet shaving is one of the best ways to live more consciously.

We advocate wet shaving with a safety razor - not a plastic cartridge razor.

Why use a safety razor?

Simply put……COST.

To our beautiful planet. Society seems to encourage faster living – faster cars, faster food, faster delivery. Wet shaving is no different. Multiple blade plastic razors and pressurised cans spewing out instant foam. The negative consequences for our planet from plastic razors and pressurised cans/chemicals in these types of shaving foam are huge.

Dispose of a plastic cartridge razor and it will inevitably end up in landfill, polluting our land or oceans. Safety razors have no plastic at all and the blades are 100% recyclable metal. The razor’s metal handle is ‘evergreen’ so you won’t need to replace.

To your wallet. Plastic razor handles are cheap to buy yet the replacement cartridge blades are expensive. The initial outlay for a quality safety razor is an investment, but the blades are cheap (and recyclable) so more economical in the long run.

Our artisan shaving soap is long lasting, with daily use, our vessels will last 9-12 months whilst our tins over 6 months. All natural and full of skin loving ingredient no waste, sustainable and biodegradable. Shaving with a safety razor captures the Aermeda philosophy perfectly.

No plastic. No landfill. No excess waste.

Having explored many liquid ingredients and the benefits they bring to soap, we made the decision to only make milk cleansing and shaving soaps. Always intrigued by the benefits of milk on skin,  we've taken the time to master the art and produce a soap that does not compromise the quality of the end result, making a shaving soap with high moisturisation properties.
